5 Things You Need To Know Before Buying Carpet

Posted October 22, 2019

Five important things to consider before buying carpet.
  1. Floors too good to walk on?
Choose the most stain resistant carpet if you don't want the family dog relegated to the back yard. We have a range of premium solution dyed nylon carpets that are guaranteed stain proof, as well as fade proof - which allows you to get more years out of your carpet. 2. Green or Red?
What colours will look best in your home? Colour is one of the most important factors when deciding on new flooring. You need to ensure that your flooring colour matches your walls, curtains and furniture! It's not an easy job. In fact, when renovating or building, we recommend that our clients start from the carpet colour and style before moving on to the wall and curtain colours. To assist with your decision, our team have large take-home colour chart samples. It's important to look at your samples in the intended environment in all conditions - sunny, cloudy, night time - as the colour will vary depending on the lighting conditions. Of course, our team have qualified interior designers that are able to help you with your selections, or put a whole colour scheme together.

  3. It's all the look.
Cut pile, or loop pile? Which is best? Cut pile carpets feel more luxurious and create a contemporary and sophisticated atmosphere. Meanwhile, loop pile carpets have a rugged or textured appearance and have excellent appearance retention qualities. Often it comes down to what look you personally prefer.

  4. A metre saved is a lot of carpet.
Is carpet priced in square metres? Don't be mistaken in thinking that carpeting your home will be more expensive than it actually is. The "per metre" price shown doesn't actually give you just 1 square metre of carpet, in fact, you'll be getting three times that! Most carpet rolls come in broadloom metres which are 3.66 metres, with the occasional roll measuring 4m wide. When you do the maths, that's a lot of carpet. See for yourself by testing out our online flooring calculator or seeing our houselot pricing in store.

  5. No nasty surprises.
What does it really cost... installed? When you purchase new carpet, you will usually need to replace the underlay too. Other costs to consider are installation, removal of existing carpet and shifting of furniture. Our team will always give you a quote and will be able to explain any prices that you may be unsure of. Our team always strive to give a 'best value - on the floor' price, so there's no nasty surprises when it comes to paying the bills!
