Feature Home | Fendalton, Christchurch

Posted November 12, 2018

On a wet and windy spring day in the Garden City we visited Lisa and Greg at their warm and spacious new build in Fendalton, Christchurch. A big fan of natural light and warmth, the home has been architecturally designed and built by David Magill Builders to make the most of the north side of the house and views out to the pool in the courtyard.

"The indoor outdoor flow is so good and with doors opening to three aspects you can always have some indoor outdoor living going on." - Lisa

Carpet | Feltex Calluna in colour Ashwood

The 3.35 metre high ceilings feature through the living area, dining, kitchen, entry and into the formal lounge creating a feeling of space. The carpet square in the living area offers warmth and definition in the open plan room, installed into the concrete floor which runs through to the dining and kitchen, and then into the grand entrance way. Creating areas of interest and a beautiful transition through to the living and bedroom areas, the entrance features oak laid into the concrete that artfully pulls together the concrete and carpet.

The Feltex Calluna carpet in 100% solution dyed nylon works well in the home with it's cut-pile twist. It's also stain resistant, beautifully soft underfoot and will be fade resistant with the floor to ceiling windows letting the sun and light pour in.

The neutral dark gray carpet chosen, seamlessly connects the home, from the living through to the bedrooms and runs throughout. The darker stone in the concrete picks up the tone of the carpet while the tiles through the bathrooms and other utility are luxurious and reminiscent of natural stone. Large glass sliding doors also feature, hidden within the walls, to shut off areas and create quiet spaces if required.

Even though there is only a little space around the periphery of the house, the lush green of the garden gives the feeling of seclusion with the landscape design taking advantage of every window that looks out to specially curated areas featuring tiles, sculptures and planting.

The natural textures that flow through the house are calming and predominantly monochrome, leaving the house to be accented with art, throws and other interior accessories. The view out to the pool with doors in each bedroom opening out onto the patio continues the indoor outdoor flow throughout.

Thank you Lisa and Greg for sharing your beautiful new home with us!
