Feature Home | A Stunning Renovation

Posted December 10, 2019

As you enter this beautiful heritage home you immediately know that taking the home back to the stud when renovating was the perfect decision. The classic elements and character of the home have been preserved while creating a truly stunning modern interior.

Lynda and Grant had a vision for their home, and when they came into The Flooring Centre they knew what they wanted. Finding a prime oak engineered timber with minimal knotting in a natural tone to sit alongside the rest of their mainly monochrome interior colour scheme wasn't proving the easiest. But, when our new Hurford range turned up early in 2018 Katrina our consultant knew immediately she had found them their flooring match.

Engineered Timber Floor: Hurford Naked Oak

Over many years Lynda and Grant have amassed a much loved collection of art from around New Zealand and the world. They needed a space that could display their eclectic collection while providing a functional day to day living space.

Hurford Naked Oak it turns out was the perfect flooring solution to go with their other interiors which are mostly of a monochromatic nature. The timber flows throughout  the living areas and into the halls and perfectly bridges the gap between the history of the the home and it's new modern renovation.

From the Neolith Calacatta marble featured throughout the kitchen and on the fire surround, to every piece of furniture and artwork Lynda and Grant have collected over the years from their travels around the world - they have created their home. Full of their treasures yet perfectly functional. They love entertaining and the spaces have been designed to cater for the two of them - or to a large dinner party with their traditional extendable table and large butlers pantry off the kitchen.

Lynda and Grant decided to run with the timber throughout, only running the carpet up the stairs to reduce noise and through the bedrooms for a warmer and cosier feeling. By running with timber in the upstairs hall to help link the ground and first floor, the home is beautifully cohesive between levels. Taking the timber upstairs into the hall also gives a more open feel in a space where the ceiling is lower.

The carpet used throughout the bedrooms is Belgotex Rockefeller in colour Zinc and it perfectly meets that warm grey criteria this couple were looking for. Lynda and Grant were also specifically after a carpet that doesn't show too much movement - and Rockefeller it turns out is perfect.

The carpet beautifully compliments the feature wallpapers (which are art in their own right) and paint colours throughout. It also will works with lots of colours so it's definitely a colour that future proofs, no matter the decor they decide to go with next.
