Now you can live the herringbone dream.

Posted March 6, 2019

Herringbone is beautiful and traditional flooring option that has been used for hundreds of years to achieve that look of pure opulence - and its an option that is often dismissed for those with big budgets and architectural builds. While it can be very expensive if you go for traditional timber parquet - the good news is that there are now options out there that can get you the look for considerably less.

Cambridge Oak Mini Parquet by Polyflor - priced from $39  per square metre.

There are currently some great luxury vinyl tiles on the market that replicate the look of timber in a very real way - and are often mistaken for the real deal. This Cambridge Oak Mini Parquet option from Polyflor is a great example, with warm browns through to grey tones within each board, this flooring is diverse and will go with a range of interior looks.

This is a small tile, measuring in at 76mm x 229mm making it a good option for smaller rooms. Usually with Herringbone it is recommended to lay it in large rooms to get the full effect of the pattern but with the smaller tile you don't need the space the same to make it pop.

Belgotex Ultimo II London Plank in Summer Oak & Columbia Pine - priced at $99 per square metre.

This stunning luxury vinyl tile is a product that will change your home for the better. Available in both the Summer Oak and Columbia Pine colour ways, this product is stunning and will take your home to the next level of class. This product is going to wear really well with it's super guard stain shield as well as the slip resistance coating that will keep everyone safe and sound. This is also a great option for colder climates as you can use it with underfloor heating to keep your space warm and toasty.

Karndean Art Select AP01 - priced at

Herringbone is a great way to create texture in your home. We recently installed this beautiful LVT by Karndean in a home in Christchurch and we featured it on our blog at the end of 2018. Tessa and Dylan loved the fact that this product allowed them to have the herringbone feature on their floor without the traditional price tag. Guests often walk into the house and think it's timber. You can check out the full blog here.

Herringbone by Hurford - priced from $125 per square metre.

If luxury vinyl tiles are not floating your boat, and you still want to go for timber - Hurford timber flooring has just launched at The Flooring Centre and offers an engineered plank that seamlessly fits together with it's inter-locking design. The raw finish allows for a custom finish to complete your very on individualized look.

Don't forget to factor in installation costs.

While there are lots of alternative options to the traditional herringbone floor that will get you a similar look for less - remember to factor in installation. Herringbone solutions are more time consuming to install than standard rectangular planks - which does increase installation costs. It's best to budget at least 50% more than standard installation.

The best way to get the price of the product and the installation is to arrange a FREE measure and quote that will give you exactly what you need after you have been into the showroom to determine the best product for your space.
