Commercial Flooring Project Spotlight: Lincoln Library Flooring Upgrade

Delivering a Durable and Cost-Effective Flooring Solution for Lincoln Library

The Flooring Centre recently completed a commercial flooring upgrade at Lincoln Library, working alongside Selwyn District Council to replace the library's existing carpet tiles with a modern, durable flooring solution tailored to the needs of this busy community facility.

From the outset, Selwyn District Council's brief was clear: deliver a flooring solution that was both economical and built to provide long-term durability in a high-traffic public environment. With thousands of visitors moving through the library each year, the flooring needed to withstand heavy daily use while remaining easy to maintain and visually appealing.

To achieve these objectives, our team carefully selected a combination of commercial carpet tile ranges from Jacobsen, Victoria Carpets, Robert Malcolm and Belgotex. The design incorporates a contemporary mix of grey, green and blue tones, creating a welcoming and vibrant environment while subtly defining different areas throughout the library. The result is a space that is not only functional and hard-wearing but also inviting for visitors of all ages.

A range of carpet tiles were chosen for their modern aesthetic and durability to ensure the space was vibrant and welcoming for the community while still being highly practical.

Working Around the Community

One of the key priorities for this project was ensuring the library could continue operating with as little disruption as possible. To achieve this, our installation team carried out all flooring works after hours, allowing the library to remain open and operational for much of the project.

Careful planning, communication and coordination with Selwyn District Council ensured the installation was completed safely, efficiently and with minimal impact on staff, visitors and the wider community.

The installation of the new carpet tiles was completed after hours to allow the library and surrounding facilities to remain open for most of the project.

Supporting Sustainable Flooring Practices

Sustainability was another important outcome of this project.

Rather than sending the existing carpet tiles to landfill, the removed Jacobsen carpet tiles were recycled through the Jacobsen Re.Form programme. This initiative helps divert used flooring materials from landfill by recovering and repurposing existing carpet tiles, supporting a more circular approach to commercial flooring and helping reduce the environmental impact of refurbishment projects.

By combining durable flooring products with responsible end-of-life recycling, this project demonstrates how commercial renovations can deliver long-term value while supporting sustainability goals.
