We will be CLOSED on Thursday 25/04/24 for ANZAC Day. Lest we forget.

Christchurch has a Cat Cafe!

Posted October 24, 2018

Nate and Alyssa are unsurprisingly cat people. They volunteered with Cat Rescue Canterbury for several years before opening their dream cat cafe - Catnap Cafe on Colombo Street.

Not sure what to expect on arrival we found a light and bright cafe with a door through to the area where the cats hang out. Open for two months now the cafe is flat out in the weekends and they are starting to see repeat visitors already, eager to hang out with their new best friends. We can see why - the coffee was great, the staff were super friendly and the kitty cuddles are outstanding!

Jacobsens Tarkett Traffic 250 Winter Pine, Soft Grey runs throughout the cafe and cat hang-out area.

Of course, we were there to see the finished flooring, Nate and Alyssa reckoned picking the flooring colour was one of the "most challenging" parts of the process in creating their new cafe. They wanted to create an eclectic aesthetic and needed flooring that would work throughout the cafe and cat room with the murals and mix of furniture. With the requirement to also be hard wearing enough to deal with lots of foot traffic and the cats they found their purr-fect product in Jacobsens Tarkett Traffic 250 Winter Pine, Soft Grey.

They are really happy with the final results, the mix of grey with warmer hues running through it has created a warm and inviting flooring solution that brings together all the elements in the cafe. From a practical view point the Tarkett Traffic vinyl plank does exactly as it's supposed to, offering an easy to clean, tough floor that works throughout the building.

Cats can hang out in the large open areas with guests or slink on out into their own private area at anytime. With large jungle gyms where they can go up to the roof or hide out in their cat boxes, you could happily sit there and watch them for hours.

The cats will soon be available for adoption, it's an awesome place to see the social side of the cats and Nate and the rest of the staff are more than happy to talk to their guests about their furry friends, where they have come from and if they are dealing with any disabilities. Each cat has come from Cat Rescue Canterbury .... and they all have a story.

If you're in town, head in and check out Catnap Cafe and their furry friends - but make sure you call ahead and book during the weekend so you don't miss out!
