Feature Home: Luxury Carpet and Great Views

Posted December 14, 2022

The views from Christchurch's Port Hill's are stunning, especially from this thoughtfully renovated home perched on the hill in St. Martins. Native timber floors have been lovingly restored throughout the living areas and carefully paired with new wool carpet which adds warmth and luxury throughout.

As you walk into the house on this gorgeous elevated section, you are greeted by the beautifully woven, wool carpet Kensho - which runs throughout the ground floor. From the extra living area to the three bedrooms, the warm and inviting nature of Kensho in colour Zen is perfect for this light and bright home. Inspired by Japanese Zen gardens, the peace and tranquility it takes it's inspiration from is spoken for when installed. Calm, inviting and modern, we can see why this new range is proving so popular.

Underfoot the comfort of wool carpet in noticeable on a grey and drizzly day, where the homes layout invites you to enjoy peace and quiet, with each room feeling like a mini-break away from hustle and bustle of daily life.

Upstairs the master bedroom is huge, with a sitting area, walk in robe, ensuite bathroom and brilliant views of the city. The calming green (Hindsight by Resene) in the master, is perfect for a light filled bedroom.  While Ami says that the green was a bit outside of her normal, she was super excited to add some colour - and we can see why. The green creates continuity throughout the top level of the home, connecting the stairwell, dining, kitchen and lounge seamlessly.

Resene Hindsight looks great paired with the neutral tones of the carpet and other furnishings.

Both upstairs and downstairs you will find bathrooms that are modern and fresh. What may surprise is the use of sheet vinyl, even we were a little surprised to note how authentic it looked installed. The Tasman sheet vinyl range from Godfrey Hirst is very matte, lacking the sheen that many sheet vinyl's have. In fact, at first the writer of this blog, may have thought it was a plank of some description - but not sheet vinyl. It's always lovely to be surprised by just how good a product can look installed. Tasman in Boardwalk is definitely an option worth considering if you're after sheet vinyl.

The herringbone sheet vinyl from the Tasman range by Godfrey Hirst really wows throughout the bathrooms and utility areas.

Upstairs the native Rimu floorboards were a lucky find under old dusty blue carpet and lino, and have been reinvigorated in the most wonderful of ways. The solid timber has been refinished and is now ready for many more years of enjoyment. We love the mix of wool carpet with the timber which makes for a very naturally inspired interior.

Overall, the original timber floorboards mixed with the beautiful Kensho wool carpet really gives a feeling of warmth throughout this two story home. Ami has once again knocked it out of the park with this thoughtful, modern renovation that ticks all the boxes for a lovely family home.
