Feature Home: Luxury and Timeless Style Restored

This architecturally designed Avonhead home with a rural outlook has undergone a stunning flooring transformation. Over the last decade, it had suffered extensive damage during the various earthquakes that Christchurch became known for and the time had finally come for the flooring to be replaced, out with the old and in with the new! We recently had the privilege of visiting this beautiful home to see the incredible transformation for ourselves.
Homeowner Moira came to The Flooring Centre looking to replace the stunning rimu flooring and woolen carpet throughout her home that had seen better days. She wanted to keep to natural colours and textures that reflected the original materials of the home but that still tied in with the modern features of the home such as the exposed cinder blocks and new aluminum joinery.
The carpet chosen was Bremworth’s Lattice in Bramble, a 100% wool extra heavy duty textured loop pile. This was installed in the bedrooms with 11mm/130kg supreme underlay for its incredible comfort underfoot and its excellent acoustic transfer value. The carpet has the perfect balance of both cool and warm tones that tie in beautifully with the colour palette and overall style of the home. Lattice Wool Carpet is also extremely durable and easy care, perfect for the busy homeowners. One unique feature of this project was the carpet insert in the lounge, a feature of the home that Moira wanted to keep, it adds a point of difference to the room while also functioning as a way of separating the dining and lounge spaces.

The timber flooring chosen was Oak Elegance by Godfrey Hirst in Ashen Oak. This is a stunning engineered timber with a genuine European Oak surface, true-to-life distinct knots and grain variation which creates a true sense of classic style. Moira knew that she wanted to replace the damaged rimu flooring with timber but wanted something with a cooler streak through it that would complement the modern features of the home. The grey hue of Ashen Oak provided this with the brown tones offering warmth. Combined, the two colours perfectly balance and achieve a timeless aesthetic. The engineered timber was installed in the kitchen, living, hallway, entry and dining rooms tying these areas together cohesively. It was also installed highly skillfully around the carpet insert in the lounge to create a beautiful border, both a feature and practical way of creating a difference between the formal and more causal spaces. The original rimu if the home had also been used in this way, with mitered edges used for joining the planks. This time around, a square edge was created, for a more modern and subtle look.
Oak Elegance engineered timber flooring in Ashen Oak by Godfrey Hirst was installed in the kitchen, dining, living and hallway.
Overall, the combination of Bramble wool carpet and Oak Elegance engineered timber throughout this home has revived its former sense of luxury and style. Moira is thrilled with the final result and will no doubt enjoy many more years in this beautiful home that has been thoughtfully restored.
